Corbin's Journey at Yiramalay
Corbin’s journey is a testament to the impact of Yiramalay’s residential on-country model.
Despite regular attendance at other schools, Corbin had made limited progress with his numeracy and literacy learning.
Early on during his time at Yiramlay, Corbin shared that he likes it here “because people help you”; a recognition of the positive impact of a culturally sensitive, holistic approach to learning, where students feel safe and seen.
Since coming to Yiramalay, Corbin has demonstrated significant growth in his literacy and numeracy scores. Notably, his initial English results improved from 7% to 56% during the semester last year as a Year 11 student.
Work Experience at Hutchinson Builders
In 2024, as a Year 12 student, Corbin has taken part in work experience with the Gooniyandi Rangers in his holidays and began his work experience with Hutchinson Builders in July. The first three students headed off to work experience with Hutchinson Builders, with copies of their White Cards and work reading clothing.
